ISTA’s new Packaging Dynamics Professional (PDP) certification program is here! This new expanded educational opportunity replaces our Certified Packaging Laboratory Professional (CPLP) program. PDP was developed by ISTA in collaboration with experts in the packaging research, design & testing industry.

Participants will be required to complete and pass six PDP training modules and now you can choose how you want to learn and get certified. Choose the flexibility of learning on your own with ISTA's new Online Learning platform or the interactivity of Live Virtual or In-Person Training events. Check out the upcoming live virtual and in-person trainings below. Plus, ISTA is offering our education and certification programs to both members and non-members around the globe.

With more than 50 years, both as an academic and a packaging industry professional, Dennis Young is retiring as a Packaging Instructor from Michigan State University School of Packaging – effective September 1st.

Prior to joining MSU, Dennis served as ISTA’s Technical Director and played a very significant role to the foundation and success of the association. Dennis also served on ISTA’s Board of Directors and was a recipient of ISTA’s Educational Foundation R. David LeButt Award for excellence in packaging education. Dennis has made his mark through his willingness to share his expert knowledge with the packaging community. So many have learned from him through his countless presentations and technical papers with emphasis on distribution packaging, supply chain measurement and package development & testing.

Dennis Young, in the world of packaging, has always been and always will be an icon and ISTA will be forever grateful for his contributions. Please join us in congratulating Dennis on his well-earned retirement!

Congratulations to the four $4,500 undergraduate research grant awardees! The ISTA Educational Foundation is thrilled to announced we have selected the following four undergraduate research proposals focused on minimizing product damage throughout distribution and optimizing resource usage through effective package design. The universities have been invited to present their research findings at the 2023 ISTA Forum, which will be held May 1-3, 2023 in Houston, Texas!

  • Rochester Institute of Technology: Evaluation of crowdsourced logistics operations during last mile delivery segments
  • Clemson University: Shock, Vibration and Environmental Analysis of Automated Fulfillment Center for Grocery Distribution
  • Virginia Tech: Mapping of the Grocery Delivery to Home Process and Hazards in a Suburban Environment
  • University of Wisconsin-Stout: The Principle of Optimized Cushion Design for minimizing product damage throughout the distribution

The ISTA Educational Foundation (ISTAEF) is seeking nominations for the R. David LeButt AwardThis prestigious award honors packaging professionals in recognition of their excellence and continuing education in transport packaging. The R. David LeButt Award was established in 1999 in the memory of Dave LeButt, who served as an ISTA officer and participated in, and realized, the importance of packaging education. Nomination deadline is January 31, 2023
