Global Board of Directors

At the 2025 ISTA Forum held in Orlando, Florida, the Global Board of Directors welcomed two new members-at-large: ISTA also recognized the dedicated service of outgoing board members Jonathan Quinn, CEO of the U.S. Plastics Pact, and Jill Martin, Global Sustainability Fellow at The Dow Chemical Company. Both have made significant contributions to ISTA’s mission during their tenure.

“We’re excited to welcome Craig and Lisa to the Global Board and deeply grateful to Jonathan and Jill for their dedicated leadership,” said ISTA President & CEO A.J. Gruber. “Our board represents a unique cross-section of expertise from across the packaging and supply chain industries, and these transitions ensure we continue to grow in global impact and insight.”

Global Board Sustainability Committee

In a significant move to support sustainability practices across the industry, the ISTA Global Board also approved the formation of a new Global Board Sustainability Committee (GBSC) at its fall meeting in Chicago. The GBSC will be chaired by Bill Green of IBM, with Jill Martin of Dow Chemical named as co-chair. The committee’s mission is to equip industry leaders with resources to optimize packaging for both product protection and environmental performance.

The ISTA Pharma Committee also announced new leadership appointments and board additions following its spring meeting at the ISTA Forum in Orlando, Florida:

European Division Board

Following its fall 2024 meeting in Frankfurt, Germany, ISTA’s European Division Board welcomed two new board members: They join a diverse board led by Chair Alberto Tellechea of Safe Load Testing Technologies, comprising members from organizations across Europe who are committed to advancing packaging innovation and sustainability.

Craig Vermeyen
Director, Packaging & Labeling

Craig is responsible for the design, qualification, and implementation of packaging and labeling materials at Kite, a Gilead Company. He has over 12 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, and holds a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego.

Lisa Barbieri Moher
Head of North America Distribution Packaging & Graphics
Sanofi


Lisa Barbieri Moher is the Head of North America Supply Chain Distribution Package Engineering and Graphics at Sanofi. With 23 years of experience in thermal engineering, Lisa is a recognized expert in cold chain management. She oversees packaging for all Sanofi business units, including General Medicine, Vaccines, and Specialty Care. Lisa has been instrumental in designing and qualifying coolers for product delivery to ensure the efficacy and safety of Sanofi's products through innovative cold chain packaging solutions. Additionally, Lisa manages budgetary responsibilities for supplies and implements cost-saving initiatives to optimize ROI holistically, while focusing on standardization in packaging solutions, design, and qualification processes in a lab environment. She is also responsible for all graphics for regulatory artwork on commercial finished goods for the US and Canadian markets and has been pivotal in rapid launches, streamlining and managing stakeholders in the artwork process. Lisa has standardized and reduced internal procedures to enhance efficiency in both graphics and engineering, streamlining the artwork process during a rapid launch from days to hours. Lisa is committed to sustainability, with 90% of packaging cold chain solutions being biodegradable and/or recyclable. She has also implemented a biobased solution to replace expanded polystyrene. Lisa has co-authored multiple guidance documents and standards within the PDA and ISTA and holds a Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Bryan Cardis

Bryan is a Graduate of Michigan State University with a Degree in Packaging with over 23 years of experience in temperature-controlled packaging development, warehousing, transportation, and logistics. Bryan is an active member of the ISTA Pharma Committee engaged in industry collaboration, creating industry best practice guidance documents, and driving industry standardization.  Formerly, Bryan worked at Eli Lilly and Company for 18 years serving as a Senior Advisor for Global Packaging and the Temperature Controlled Center of Excellence enhancing global temperature-controlled solutions and distribution and logistics processes. Currently, Bryan is the Sr. Director of Technical Services for Cold Chain Technologies focusing on providing extensive pharma background and expertise to aid in development of cost-effective thermal solutions that meet customer safety, environmental, regulatory, and quality requirements.

Carolyn Williamson

Carolyn has 20 years’ experience in supply chain qualification spanning the development and commercial components in both pharmaceutical and biologics space. Carolyn has been active in this space within the industry throughout her career and currently is serving on the ISTA Pharma Committee Board. Carolyn transferred her career to a consulting role in 2019 as President of Parenteral Supply Chain offering her the freedom to work on every aspect of the supply chain from Mile 1 to the Last Mile. Carolyn is certified as a Project Management Professional. She uses this experience in managing projects for her clients. She holds a B.S. degree from The Catholic University of America and an M.B.A. degree from LeMoyne College. She is also a Distinguished Toastmaster and an avid runner enjoying the challenges of marathons.

Bill Mayer

Bill has over 16 years of experience in the cold chain packaging industry and is currently the Director of Research and Development at Pelican BioThermal. Some areas of specialization for him include passive thermal packaging design, materials R & D and thermal testing. He is co-inventor of several patents pertaining to passive thermal packaging and participates in an industry SME group writing whitepapers. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering with a minor in mathematics from North Dakota State University (NDSU).

Tiffany Paupst

Tiffany Paupst has an Undergraduate in Chemical Engineering with 15 years in Quality, Operations, and Engineering roles.  She began working in life-sciences supporting cold chain packaging development in 2016 and is now working for Merck supporting Distribution Technology.  Tiffany joined the ISTA Pharma Committee Board in 2023 and is looking forward to supporting ISTA, its members, and the broader life science community.

Anthony Rizzo

Anthony (TJ) Rizzo is responsible for the development and execution of CCT’s commercial strategy while also providing leadership, coordination, and financial oversight of the global business units and regional commercial teams. Additionally, he is a significant driver for CCT’s continued geographic expansion as well as new product and services introductions. TJ has made significant contributions to the growth of CCT over the last 19 years globally and has been instrumental in leading the development and deployment of CCT’s reusable and sustainable strategy. TJ received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and has his Master of Business Administration in Management from University of Massachusetts Amherst. Additionally, he is a founding member and chair of the ISTA Pharma Committee. TJ is an expert member of the Parental Drug Association (PDA) Pharmaceutical Cold Chain Interest Group (PCCIG) as a co-author on PDA Technical Reports 39, 46, and 52, as well as on the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) within International Standards Organization (ISO).

Jeffrey Lander

Jeff has over a decade of experience in cold chain distribution within the pharmaceutical industry and is currently the Associate Director of Logistics Engineering at Moderna.  During his time at Moderna, Jeff has been instrumental in supporting the commercial distribution of over a billion doses of the Moderna Spikevax COVID-19 vaccine worldwide.  Some areas of specialization for him include the creation of a global shipping validation framework, cold chain stability design for commercial products, temperature monitoring / shipment visibility and serving as an SME during regulatory inspections and audits for cold chain distribution topics.

Bill McGillian

Bill McGillian, Associate Director of Supply Chain Management at Merck, is a seasoned professional in the realm of pharmaceutical logistics. Bill earned his B.S.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and has since devoted 32 years of his career to Merck, working in various roles within manufacturing, technology, and logistics. Throughout his tenure at Merck, Bill has gained extensive experience across numerous API and Vaccine/Biological sites, has led successful technology transfers, managed complex manufacturing operations, and has pioneered the launch of new bulk vaccine facilities.  Bill has acted in numerous roles in Operations, Technology, and Supply Chain at Merck. Currently, his role within the global Center of Excellence revolves around tackling product handling and transportation issues, with a particular emphasis on cold chain logistics.  He played a key role in the successful implementation of ocean shipping, numerous other Thermal Protection Systems, and digital logistics programs on a global scale at Merck.

Arminda Montero

Arminda Montero is Global Supply Chain Quality Associate Director at AbbVie.  In her role, she leads strategic initiatives focusing on supply chain integrity, distribution and logistics, and temperature control management.  Arminda has worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 20 years and prior to her current role, she held positions in engineering, manufacturing and operational excellence.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Arminda is an active member of various industry groups and a frequent speaker at temperature control management forums.  She has co-authored various temperature control management articles, PDA Technical Reports and ISTA best practice guidelines.  Arminda currently serves on the ISTA Pharma Committee Leadership Team. 

Pierre-Jean Cavaroc

With a master's degree in analytical chemistry from Toulouse's Paul Sabatier University, Pierre-Jean has over 14 years' experience in packaging testing. He joined MPK in November 2024 as Business Developer, having previously held the positions of Packaging Expert and Packaging Global Manager for over 9 years. He draws on his experience of various testing techniques, from transport simulation to material characterization, to help customers understand, develop and improve their packaging.

Stefania Zanotti

Stefania Zanotti is a respected authority in industrial packaging with over 25 years of experience. Her extensive technical expertise has established her as a key resource for both Grifal Spa and its clients in developing and validating sustainable packaging solutions and innovative materials. Under her leadership, the Grifal laboratory has grown into an ISTA-certified facility and the company has earned membership in Amazon's APASS network, serving as a central hub for internal and external testing and reference for internationally recognized certifications. As the head of corporate and product certification systems, Stefania maintains a sharp focus on sustainability and innovation, helping the company achieve significant milestones that anticipate market trends and deliver responsive solutions to customer requirements.
