The Outstanding Student Award is designed to honor exceptional students who have demonstrated remarkable academic achievements and leadership qualities. This award celebrates those who have excelled in their studies, contributed to their university community, and shown a passion for packaging.

2026 Award Recipient | Hannah Dickson

The ISTA Educational Foundation (ISTAEF) is thrilled to announce Hannah Dickson as the recipient of this year’s Outstanding Student Award. Hannah was honored at the 2026 ISTA Forum USA, which included the TempPack and TransPack events, held in Phoenix, Arizona in April.

Hannah Dickson is a Senior Honors Packaging Science student at Clemson University from Aiken, SC. As President of the Packaging Science Club, she leads initiatives that strengthen student involvement and expand connections with industry partners. She has completed a co-op with Arthrex, gaining exposure to real-world applications in medical-device packaging, and will further broaden her experience this summer as a packaging intern with Newell Brands. Hannah was also a student presenter at the 2025 ISTA TransPack Forum. Graduating in December 2026, she is dedicated to advancing innovative, user-centered, and sustainable packaging solutions while continuing to grow as a leader in the industry.

Make a Nomination

Award candidates are nominated by industry peers and reviewed by the Foundation Board Members for final selection. The selected recipient will be honored at ISTA's Annual Forum. Review the full nomination criteria prior to making a nomination. Nominations may be submitted for consideration at any time through the online form. The deadline for nominations to be considered in a given year is January 31st.

Criteria:

  • Recipients of this award are undergraduate students who have distinguished themselves through their dedication to learning, innovative thinking, and active participation in packaging-related activities. Whether through academic excellence, involvement in research projects, or leadership in student organizations, these students exemplify the qualities of future leaders in the packaging field.
  • Nominees for the Outstanding Student Award should exhibit the following qualities:
    • Academic Excellence: Achieving high academic performance and demonstrating a deep understanding of packaging principles and practices.
    • Leadership: Taking initiative and leading projects, student organizations, or community activities related to packaging.
    • Innovation: Introducing new ideas or approaches that contribute to the advancement of packaging technology or sustainability.
    • Commitment: Showing a strong dedication to the packaging field through participation in internships, research, or industry events.
  • This award not only recognizes individual achievements but also highlights the importance of nurturing young talent and fostering a culture of excellence in university packaging programs. It serves as an inspiration for other students to strive for greatness and contribute to the future of the packaging industry. The award includes:
    • $1,000 Award
    • An award recognizing their achievement
    • ISTA Forum USA Registration
    • Hotel room cost for the participant
